Laser Hair Removal – Services & Cost

The Candela GentleLase, a revolutionary long pulse high energy alexandrite laser system. The GentleLase operates at a wavelength of 755 nanometers (nm), the gold standard for patients with dark hair and light skin colors. The Candela GentleYag utilizes a longer wavelength of 1064 nanometers (nm). This allows the light to penetrate deeply into the skin without seeing the skin color, and is used for darker skin types. Both systems operate by emitting a gentle beam of light to the hair follicle, where it is transferred into heat, leaving the surrounding skin unchanged. A dynamic cooling process protects the skin in which a cryogen is sprayed onto the skin cooling the upper layers, providing the clients with increased comfort. The Candela GentleLase and GentleYag lasers are FDA approved for providing permanent hair reduction.

Laser Hair Removal Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a procedure by which hair is removed from the body by utilizing the GentleLase or GentleYag. During the procedure the laser is used to emit a pulse of light that passes through the skin and is absorbed within the hair shaft. This light energy is transformed into heat, which destroys the surrounding hair follicle that is in its active growth cycle at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter their growth cycle at different times, additional treatments will be necessary to disable all of the follicles in a given area.

How does the laser remove hair?

Colorado Springs Laser Hair RemovalNot all lasers are the same. Lasers designed for permanent hair reduction emit different wavelengths of light. The GentleLase at 755 nm is light energy designed to target melanin, the pigment in the hair. The GentleYag at 1064 nm is light energy designed to target the blood in the feeder vessel of the hair follicle rather than melanin. If the surrounding skin is relatively light compared to the color of the hair, the GentleLase at 755 nm is used. If both skin color and hair color are dark, the GentleYag at 1064 nm is utilized. It is imperative to have a consultation with a facility that can utilize either wavelength for patient safety and effectiveness.

What are the advantages of using a laser?

The GentleLase and GentleYag lasers are safe, fast, comfortable and effective. Lasers are computer- programmed instruments that greatly reduce the incidence of natural human error. Unlike the precision “follicle by follicle” treatments the laser uses a wide beam which allows the treatment of many follicles all at once. Treatment of large areas, such as a woman’s legs or a man’s back that once took months to perform with electrolysis can now be performed in a few hours. There is a definite cost advantage as well.

Lasers are attracted to the color (melanin) of the hair and are not suitable for white or red colored hairs. All clients who are not candidates for laser hair removal can have electrolysis treatments as an alternative method for permanent hair removal, which is also available at LHRC. LHRC provides the best electrology and laser hair removal techniques so that their clients have a choice for the best method for their particular hair and skin type.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Laser Hair Removal Treatment Colorado Springs

Laser hair removal treatments are not painful or painless, but can best be described as a rubber band snap. Some areas are more sensitive than others, most laser clients describe the treatment as only mildly uncomfortable. The GentleLase and GentleYag systems use a patented DCD (Dynamic Cooling Device). A cool spray is administered milliseconds before the laser pulses, protecting the skin and allowing for normal activity soon after treatment.

How much does laser hair removal cost?

The fee for laser hair removal treatments varies depending on the size of the area to be treated, skin and hair type. At LHRC we provide each client with an individualized treatment plan to optimize your permanent hair-removal goals. Most clients should expect to have 4 to 6 treatments, spaced in 6 to 8 week intervals. Fees are based on a sliding scale of 6 treatments. (The average fee’s range from $83 to $300 per treatment for facial and smaller areas. The average fees for larger areas can range from $300 to $700 per treatment). We encourage all clients to adhere to their individual treatment plan since hair grows in cycles.
